About this tool

Make focused work easier to begin and repeat

Pomodoro Timer is a simple productivity tool for alternating focused work with intentional breaks. It keeps the current session, remaining time, and daily progress visible without requiring an account.

This site is maintained by the Pomodoro Timer project. It is designed for studying, writing, programming, administrative work, and other tasks that benefit from a clear start and finish.

How to use

Start with one task

  1. Choose a specific task.Write down what you want to finish during the next focus session.
  2. Select Start. The focus timer begins and the progress ring decreases clockwise.
  3. Pause only when needed.Use Pause and Resume without losing your current position, or Reset to restart the session.
  4. Take the scheduled break. The next session starts automatically when the current timer reaches zero.

Short Break and Long Break

A Short Break follows a regular focus session and is intended for a quick reset. A Long Break follows the number of completed focus sessions selected in Settings and gives you more time to recover.

The default cycle uses 25 minutes of focus, a 5-minute Short Break, and a 15-minute Long Break after every 4 completed focus sessions.

Change your settings

Select Settings above the timer while it is idle or paused. You can change all three durations, choose the long-break interval, test the completion sound, and request browser notifications.

Browsers require an interaction before sound or notification features can run, so select Start or Test Sound at least once.

Pomodoro guide

Focus in manageable intervals

The Pomodoro Technique divides work into timed focus sessions separated by breaks. A defined interval makes it easier to begin, while a planned break reduces the temptation to interrupt the session early.

Prepare

Close unrelated tabs, silence distractions, and define one achievable result.

Focus

Work on the chosen task until the timer ends. Capture unrelated thoughts for later.

Recover

Stand up, rest your eyes, drink water, or move away from the work area.

Review

After several sessions, check what was completed and adjust the next task.

Ways to apply it

Students can dedicate one session to a chapter or problem set. Writers can separate drafting from editing. Developers can use one session for a small implementation goal and the next for testing. If 25 minutes does not suit the task, adjust the duration while keeping the focus-and-recovery rhythm.

FAQ

Common questions

Why can I not hear the completion sound?

Open Settings and select Test Sound. Also check the device volume, the browser tab volume, silent mode, and connected audio devices. Some browsers block audio until you select Start or Test Sound.

Why did a notification not appear?

Notifications require permission in both the browser and the operating system. Enable notifications in Settings, allow the permission request, and confirm that Focus or Do Not Disturb mode is not hiding alerts.

Where are my settings and daily records saved?

They are stored in local storage in your current browser. They are not uploaded to an account and do not automatically sync to another browser or device. Clearing site data also removes them.

Does the timer continue automatically?

Yes. A focus session starts the appropriate break, and the break starts the next focus session. The long-break interval can be changed in Settings.

Why did my daily total return to zero?

Daily statistics reset for a new local calendar day. They may also be removed when you clear browser data or use a private browsing window.
