Study workflow
Use Pomodoro sessions for active study
A timer cannot decide what to learn. Give each session a visible output so that focused time turns into evidence of understanding.
A four-session study cycle
- Map the topic: preview headings and write the questions the material should answer.
- Learn one section: read or watch with the goal of answering those questions.
- Recall without notes: explain the ideas on paper, then identify gaps.
- Practice and correct: solve questions and write why each error occurred.
With the default settings, this creates 100 minutes of focused study, three short breaks, and then a long break. For dense material, reduce the scope of each session instead of rushing to cover more pages.
Define an output before pressing Start
“Study chemistry” is difficult to finish. Better targets are “explain ionic bonding from memory,” “solve questions 1–8,” or “make five retrieval prompts from section 3.” A concrete output also makes it easier to resume after the break.
Handle interruptions without losing the session
Keep a small capture list beside you. When you remember another task, write one line and return to studying. If the interruption must be handled now, pause the timer; do not count the session as completed focus. This keeps the daily total meaningful.
Example settings
For difficult problem sets, try 35 minutes focus, 7 minutes short break, and a 20-minute long break every three sessions. For flashcards or review, 20/5 with a long break every four sessions is often easier to sustain. Treat these as starting experiments, not universal rules.
